With the Lightning Seeds’ terrace favourite ruled out, what slogan would you chose for England’s 2018 World Cup bid?
Just what can the English say to make the world like them? As the bid to host the 2018 World Cup was launched, the organisers confided that “football’s coming home” was banned as a potential slogan – the words of the song being “like a red rag to a bull” to Brazil and Germany, who see it as arrogant, despite the historical arguments. And the fans’ other chants are no better.
But how would you sell this land of milk and honey to suspicious and pedantic foreigners? What aspects would you choose, and slogan would you choose to broadcast England’s delights with unerring accuracy?
